Details of where we rehearse and when can be found by selecting the rehearsals option above.   As noted on the opening page, please do come along on a rehearsal night around 7.15pm either just to listen or to join in for a while so that you can see what it will be like.   Please ask for the Membership Secretary on arrival.

We are always looking for new recruits in all voice parts, especially in the lower voices.  Although sight reading is not a prerequisite for joining, a reasonable ability to read music is assumed for most members as well as being able to sing in tune.   All new members are given a short informal voice test by the Musical Director either on their first night or shortly thereafter, and everyone is subject to re-auditioning periodically at the discretion of the Musical Director.

As a general rule, members who wish to sing in a particular concert are expected to attend around 75% of the scheduled rehearsals for that concert.   The final rehearsal on the day is compulsory.   Should either of these points prove to be impossible, then the Musical Director has the final say on whether you can take part in the performance or not.

The age range of members is very wide and in recent years there has been a noticeable increase in numbers in the lower age groups which underlines the tremendous appeal of choral singing to people of all ages.   Out of the 170 or so members currently registered, several are students.   If you can commit to attending most rehearsals and the concerts, then there is no real age limit on who can join although most members are 18 or over.   For each concert, you can either order and purchase the music scores to keep, or you can hire them for a small sum.  There is a dress code for the concerts and you will be advised of this when you join.   For the ladies, this may involve having to purchase one or two blouses.

Being an amateur choir with no income from grants and only very limited sponsorship, our two main sources of income are ticket sales and an annual subscription.   This rate varies depending on certain circumstances and you will be informed of the applicable rate when you join.   At the time of writing, those under the age of 26 pay a significantly reduced rate as do those registered as unemployed.   For full-time students, the annual subscription is only a small nominal amount.   For details of the current subscription rates, please see the latest Newsletter which can be found on the Members page or click here.

So, if this hasn't put you off yet, we would be delighted if you decide to join us and hope that you get as much fun and enjoyment out of singing wonderful music as we do.

If you still have any questions which are not answered here, then please contact us.
