Requiem To Cancer 2018

Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England & Wales (1089464), Scotland (SCO41666) and the Isle of Man (1103).
Two years ago Simon Wood, one of our tenors, was wondering how to combine his love of choral singing with his desire to raise funds in support of Cancer Research UK, a cause of importance to him personally but also in light of the Society having lost a few members to the disease in recent years.   One obvious line to follow was a Come-and-Sing event but which piece of music to choose as its centrepiece. Then the idea struck him - why limit it to just one?

The result - a crazy but highly successful 24-hour Come-and-Sing of FOUR Requiems - well, three rehearsed and performed, plus we did the Faure for a bit of light relief!   The amount raised was over £30,000 for Cancer Research UK - an astonishing achievement.

So, he's doing it all again to raise more funds, this time with three different Requiems.  This will take place from 8pm on Friday 14th September to 8pm on Saturday 15th September 2018.    For the previous event, Cecilia McDowall donated a new anthem, which had its world premiere during the 24 hours.  This time round, Simon is equally delighted that Will Todd has agreed to donate one for this year's event.

St Paul's Church, Covent GardenThe venue for this great event will again be St Paul's Church in Covent Garden.   It may be familiar to some of you as the backdrop to where many of the entertaining street acts take place on Covent Garden's piazza throughout the year.

The sessions will be driven by choral directors, Neil FerrisJeremy Jackman, and Bob Porter (right), Artistic Director of the Brandenburg family of music organisations.  They will be supported by a top team of accompanists - Michael Higgins and Simon Gregory.

The participation cost will be £45 per singer and further information about the event and how to book your place can be found on its website by clicking here.   You can also keep up to date with details as they evolve via Twitter and Facebook using the links below.

Simon has also opened up a page on the JustGiving website so that you may make a donation to Cancer Research UK, should you wish to do so.   Maybe you are unable to participate in the singing but would like to make a donation anyway - it would be much appreciated.
