Merton SingFest : 13-17 Oct 2017

SingFest is a new Merton choral festival based on a collaboration between Wimbledon Choral Society, the Merton Music Foundation (MMF) and Wimbledon's brand new professional chamber choir, Sonoro.  It will launch over the weekend of Friday 13 October–Tuesday 17 October 2017.
The festival aims to bring the community together in celebration of Merton's rich and varied choral talent, because we believe strongly that singing is good for everyone.  The principal objective of the SingFest is to showcase singing across the borough, emphasising that there are singing groups for all levels and interests: from the likes of Wimbledon Community Chorus to smaller groups like the Trinity URC church choir.
Wimbledon Choral Society celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015. One of our 'next century' objectives was to re-establish stronger links with our local community. The sad fact is that for many years there hasn't been a venue large enough in Wimbledon for us to mount a full scale concert (we have about 180 active singers), so although we rehearse in Wimbledon, and most members are from south-west London, our visibility in the borough is lower than we would like it to be. That's why we're enthusiastic supporters of the Wimbledon concert hall initiative and so pleased to join with MMF in this Merton SingFest.
The Merton Music Foundation is run by Soo Bishop and is a registered charity established in March 1991. Its charitable aim is: "To advance music education within a framework of the arts for the benefit of the public of the London Borough of Merton and elsewhere..." See www.mmf.org.uk for further details.
Sonoro is made up of some of the country’s finest professional choral singers who are also soloists in their own right. In its first season, Sonoro established a diverse London concert series including a sell-out debut at St Martin in the Fields.  See www.sonoromusic.com for further details.  Sonoro and the Wimbledon Choral Society are fortunate to share the same Music Director, Neil Ferris.
The planned programme for the initial festival is as follows:

There is a strong schools programme masterminded by Soo that will be great fun for youngsters.
