Did you know that you can raise extra funds for the choir just by shopping online via thousands of retail store websites? And it won't cost you a penny. What? How?
Many retailers that operate websites through which you can purchase the retailers' products are signatories to a scheme that means the retailer will donate a small percentage (typically 1-3%) of the purchase amount paid online by you to your selected charity. There are several companies out there that handle this process in collaboration with the retailers but the two main ones at present are . The amount raised by each transaction may only be pennies or perhaps a pound or two, but all the little amounts add up in the end.
Please note that this process works currently only by using the retailer's website directly or connecting via the handler's website. It does not work using a retailer's app that you may have downloaded to your mobile phone or tablet. The software for this has not yet been developed to include it.
Examples of other retailers who participate include Moonpig, John Lewis, Tui, ASOS, Debenhams, notonthehighstreet.com, Ocado, Sainsbury's, Tesco, the Sock Shop, MusicRoom, Expedia, booking.com, trainline.com, The White Company, Next and many, many more.
To get started with this, the first thing you need to do is open an account for free with one or more of these handlers and to link your account to WCS as the 'cause' to which you would like the donations to go. Wimbledon Choral Society is already registered with so there's nothing you need to do there. Once your account has been set up and you've connected it to Wimbledon Choral as the 'cause' on the platform(s) then all you have to do now is ... go shopping online!
To make things even simpler, both allow you to add a feature to your web browser for free so that it detects eligible websites automatically and let's you know. This only works via your web browser on your laptop/PC - it does not work on your mobile yet.
As at the time of writing (October 2024), nearly £2000 has been raised via easyfundraising alone.
